Another foreigner involved in hit-and-run: Bolivian driver knocks down China girl

This incident reminds the STOMPer of the local case last year (2009) when ex-Romanian envoy Dr Silviu Ionescu was involved in a hit-and-run that injured two pedestrians and killed one.
In this case in China, a 23-year-old girl was hit when crossing the road on Oct 17. The driver fled the scene without stopping, but eyewitnesses who took down the car’s licence plate number called the police. The driver was later identified as a Bolivian man who was driving without a licence and while intoxicated.
The girl, who was flung over 20 metres in the accident, suffered severe brain injury, a ruptured liver, and crushed limbs. She passed away on Oct 24.
Meanwhile, the Bolivian man was given 15 days of administrative detention as punishment.
The STOMPer gave her views:
"A young teenage girl in China was killed by the speed driving of an unlicensed and drunk foreigner, who fled the scene in a very similar fashion to Ionescu.
"This driver in China had also reportedly abandoned his car and went back to his hotel quarters, which was situated within 50 metres of the accident.
"He later received a mere 15 days administrative detention.
"Looking back to the hit-and-run accident that occurred in Bukit Panjang on December 15 last year, I wonder if we have all forgotten about the Romanian diplomat hit-and-run accident.
"I certainly hope that justice will prevail and that there will be a good follow-up to this case soon."
