SMRT CEO - Merchant Saw is a crony in disguise

Merchant Saw was hailed a rare catch when SMRT crowed about her appointment as the Top Fat Cat.

SMRT, one of nationalised transit cartels said Merchant Saw will bring her world class experience from DFS to a cartel organisation that relies on duopoly boons.

In reality DFS booted the inept Saw, an underperformer who relied on relations to get to where she is now.

Apparently her networking skills give her a cushy new post at SMRT. When a ex-retail fat cat goes to SMRT as Head Honcho, it is akin to getting Gucci bapoks to run General Electric.

True to her old tricks, Saw immediately rewarded her patrons by juicing up profits, not by providing better transit or bus service but using gimmicks.

Merchant Saw merely open up empty spaces at MRT stations and bus interchanges for rental income. She convinced the inept Raymond Lim, then Transport Minion that 'lower fuel prices are not related to lower fares'. With political backing from Raymond Lim, Merchant Saw and fare watchdogs presided series of fare hikes despite lower fuel prices or bad economic conditions to earn super normal profits annually. Merchant Saw claimed her leadership skills bloat profits but forgets SMRT is a duopoly. (Note: Inept Raymond Lim was removed as Transport Minion due to underperformance but still collects fat cat pay as a Peasants' Representative)

With income boosted from non-core activities and backing from clueless Raymond Lim, Merchant Saw owes no accountability if service levels drop. Anyway, the goondu PTC merely hands out cheap fines $10,000 for service lapse. Merchant Saw only need to squeeze or fine a few tenants at MRT stations to pay PTC's fines.

When peasants lambasted Merchant Saw for her 'act blur' stance regarding MRT interchange overcrowding, Saw merely employed gangs of retirees to cajore peasants to squeeze like sardines into rush hour trains. Saw claimed it will take many years to purchase advanced signalling systems to match Hong Kong's transit performance. Saw has the gall to blame stupid peasants for clogging the interchanges because of their crass habits whole boarding trains. The regime only acted by re-arranging the Jurong East interchange platforms and promise stupid peasants that the overcrowding will be reduced - if they can wait for 9 full moons. Why is that so? Because if stupid peasants voted the 'ney' for Jurong East GRC 2011 elections, the platform upgrades will be history.

To prove that her political support remains intact, Saw ensured that newly open Circle Line Dhoby Gaut interchange station has smallest capacity to max profits and reduce construction costs. The human jam was a joke on the opening day but Saw simply smile and order more shark fin soup for lunch. The reason was obvious, two days later, Minion of State Josephine Teo told stupid peasants that capacity forecasts are never accurate and smelling each others' odour and groping women will be the key features for all transit lines.

Merchant Saw is an avid reader of jewish business magazines. One recent trick she learnt is to import cheaper engineers and technicans from surrounding basket cases e.g. Pinoyland, Burma. What a greedy lass she is? The PTC has always rubber stamped her demands for fare hikes and using cheap Pinoys and the timing of the record 2 day transit shutdown cannot be unrelated.

CEOs don't need to deal with the nitty gritty. They hire people to do that. CEOs need to inspire, motivate, forecast, visualise, take risks and lead from the front.

When I was working in the electronics industry, the best CEO I ever had was a History Graduate and the worst had a Masters in Electronics Engineering.

think about it why are we made to take PSLE and core subjects being English, Chinese, maths and Science. these are fundamentals! btw, i have seen how pple in smrt work, similar to any stat board organisation. the staff there are not inspired at all and their salary is not even high. the pple there are just treating it as a routine 8 to 5 job.

Steve Job was a visionary who found ways to earn more money by increasing consumerism! He did not ignore consumer & created something from a "GOOD TO HAVE" to "MUST HAVE". And he did not changed a necessity to a luxury! He changed a luxury to a necessity!

I think leadership alone is not enough for one to be a good CEO. He needs to have the ability to IDENTIFY and acquire crucial knowledge (both technical and commercial) in the shortest time possible. I think krafty feels that a technically trained person will have an advantage. However, in reality it may not be so. What is considered crucial for management of services like MRT is usually a delicate balance of both technical and non-tech consideration. Therefore, having a technical people at the top may lead to too much emphasis on technical matters and overlooking other social aspects. It is a myth that a History Graduate will not be able to understand the working of electronics. A gifted person usually can understand, analyse and retain new knowledge (outside their field of interest) just as well, if they decided to do so.
